A non-state, sometimes referred to as a non-government, school may offer primary, secondary or special education and is different from state (government or public) schools, home schooling, tutoring, TAFE Queensland, early childhood services or schools with overseas curriculums.
A corporation or an existing governing body planning to start a school, must apply to the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board (NSSAB) for the school's accreditation.
Accreditation shows that an entity is suitable to be the governing body of the school. Read more about
governing bodies and directors and
suitability of the governing body.
Governing bodies can decide to run a school with or without Queensland Government funding. You can apply to us for state government
funding eligibility when applying to operate a school or at any time after accreditation. Read more about funding eligibility and
funding and financial support.
